Many people were played off during the Great Depression men being the majority as they were the majority in jobs. but a lot of times when husband and fathers were laid off they were so ashamed that they didn’t come back home. They didn’t come back home because of quite a few reasons such as the social roles that persisted and still do of men being providers but “[their] ego’s another” reason that they left to just save their egos from taking that hit. These men would look for jobs while they were gone but they also lived in groups because many men would leave; these groups were called Hoovervilles and these men would sleep under Hoover Blankets. Hoovervilles and Hoover Blankets were dubbed as such because the belief was that Hoover caused the Great Depression.
